CCLAP 2014 PERFORMANCE: Jonathan Coleman – How to be a Man

Accompanied by two mannequins with Dictaphone voice boxes, the performer attempts to navigate the complex, unstable and overall tricky subject of masculinity and what it is that makes a man a man.

There are man-hugs, costume changes and a little bit of sword play. All of this is interspersed with personal stories gathered from interviews with members of the public and extracts from the various self-help books as well social clichés and famous quotes about men.

Although it takes a somewhat tongue in cheek approach to the subject, How to be a Man is an exploration of the very serious topic of the crisis of masculinity.
